This week I wanted to share my thoughts on a very important topic – Hobbies. Since I moved to this beautiful country Sweden (WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THEN CLICK THE LINK), I have learnt a completely new way of perceive our day to day activities and just the way of living life. Here, let me give you an example. Imagine the day of your interview where you are meeting a project manager of a large tech company. Now, you are all prepared with your resume, your previous project details, your tech skills and an overview of what you have worked on so far. But (this one can be a surprise) in the 80% of the interview, the project manager asks about your personality, your day to day life, your aspirations apart from work and just your way of living life. And, yes, this is what people here actually care about – your daily life, your motivations and most importantly your hobbies. If you don’t have hobbies, you’re subtly judged for being too work-a-holic.
So, I realized soon enough that this is a good chance to focus on not just my work but also build some habits to give some time to my hobbies. But we are a generation of 9-5 jobs with weekends off. So how do we find time for hobbies? Well, I created a small setup for me to find time and practice my hobbies as habits and here I am to share all that with you.
Using Notion
Well, journalling has many-many advantages. One of them is to write about my day, sometime weeks, things I am doing etc. And, I journal in lots of different ways. One is to use Notion (CHECK IT OUT HERE) – one of the coolest note-taking apps which lets you play with creativity. Here’s a snapshot of my Notion:
Tracking my weekends
This is one of the best ways to find out where my time flew. I created a tool for myself which helps me to see my activities, especially the weekends. I felt that with a 9-5 job, commuting to office and home activities, it is quite a difficult task to keep time for your hobbies which often makes me guilty. I used to beat myself up over the fact that I am not doing much other than my daily tasks. But then I figured out if I know where I am spending my time, I would be able to control it as well. I have attached the sheet at the end of this blog as a secret giveaway (it’s still a work in progress and hence I will be updating it frequently).
Push myself to build habits
Any hobby can be pursued well if we try to make a habit out of it. I like reading books, so I have created a habit to finish a book which I started and only then pick up a new one. I like writing, so I created this blog to pursue it as a hobby as well as keep a focus on improving myself.
Hobbies are only good as long as we take time to pursue them. They not only create our personality but also increase levels of serotonin and all other good hormones. I know that our generation has much more things to do than the one before us but we gotta keep ourselves happy to achieve more and more. Therefore, lets keep hobbies and create more and more of them 🙂
